Dr. Brett Hartman Named Medical Director of Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Eskenazi Health

Indianapolis, March 3, 2021 – Brett Hartman, D.O., has been named the medical director of the Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Eskenazi Health, which is the only verified adult burn center in Indiana and is recognized as one of the leading burn centers in the nation.

“At Eskenazi Health we see the entire spectrum of burn injuries and our compassionate, highly skilled burn team is well-prepared to care for these vulnerable patients,” said Dr. Lisa Harris, CEO of Eskenazi Health. “Dr. Hartman brings years of experience, skill and leadership to an already strong team and I’m excited to see what the future will hold.”

A member of the Eskenazi Health burn team since 2014, Dr. Hartman is a board certified plastic surgeon with specialty training in acute care of the injured burn patient and burn reconstruction. Additionally, he has served as a teacher and mentor of third year medical students and residents while on rotation on the burn service where students participate in multi-disciplinary rounds learning about the overall care of burn patients, including assisting in operating room procedures.

Dr. Hartman completed his general surgery residency at the Penn State University Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in 2009. He then pursued a Burn Surgery Fellowship with the Indiana University School of Medicine. In order to provide complete care to the most challenging patients, he then completed a surgical critical care fellowship at Loyola University in Chicago in 2011. Dr. Hartman then completed training in plastic surgery at Indiana University.
