Along with its primary patient services, the Smith Level I Shock Trauma Center at Eskenazi Health goes above and beyond to provide care for trauma patients suffering from musculoskeletal injuries and related complications.
With expert trauma surgeons, the Smith Level I Shock Trauma Center serves as a primary teaching hospital of the IU School of Medicine and one of Indiana’s main training sites for orthopaedic trauma services.

- Pelvic and acetabular (hip) fractures
- Geriatric fractures
Complications or Chronic Conditions
- Non-unions (fractures that did not heal)
- Mal-unions (fractures that healed poorly or in an incorrect position)
- Infections and osteomyelitis (bone infection)
- Arthritis after a fracture
