The Eskenazi Health Pre-Anesthesia Testing Clinic prepares patients for upcoming surgery. Once a need for surgery is identified, a patient will be scheduled for an appointment with Pre-Anesthesia Testing.
At Eskenazi Health Pre-Anesthesia Testing, nurses perform assessments to ensure patients are in the best health possible to undergo surgery. They also review surgery instructions, answer questions about the day of the surgery and after the operation, and review some discharge instructions.
During this appointment, a nurse will conduct an assessment and review medical/surgical history. Then, testing, such as an EKG or lab work, may be performed. Depending on the medical history and the procedure that is scheduled, a nurse practitioner or anesthesiologist may conduct an examination. Patients are asked to bring a list of medications they are taking, including all over-the-counter medications, to this appointment, which can take about an hour. During this appointment patients will also be given specific instructions regarding their medications prior to surgery.
Patients are asked to register for their Pre-Anesthesia Testing appointment in the third-floor waiting room of the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, which can be reached by taking the green elevators up from the main concourse. Please note: The pre-anesthesia appointment must be completed within 30 days of the scheduled surgery but it is preferred that the appointment take place two weeks prior to the surgery.
This clinic also accepts walk-in blood draws with physician orders from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
