When a patient’s needs extend beyond the normal scope of primary care while also falling outside of Eskenazi Health’s other health care services, Eskenazi Health Special Medicine offers access to medical specialty care physicians. Located on the fourth floor of the Sandra Eskenazi Outpatient Care Center, Special Medicine appointments are made on a referral basis from a patient’s primary care provider.
By partnering with the patient’s primary care provider to diagnose and manage complex or chronic health care needs, Special Medicine physicians can provide top-level care in a collaborative atmosphere. Patients are seen by licensed physicians in fellowship training, practicing a medical specialty under the supervision of IU School of Medicine faculty members and, in some cases, a specialty-trained nurse practitioner.
