On Saturday, Sept. 12, several local organizations will team up to offer free health screenings, teen sports physicals, family entertainment, free food and helpful resources to the public at Eskenazi Health Center Community Day.
This year’s event will be held at Eskenazi Health Center Grassy Creek, 9443 East 38th St. The fair will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is hosted by three Eskenazi Health Center locations, Forest Manor, Grassy Creek and North Arlington.
Free health screenings will be offered during the event including blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), sexually transmitted diseases (STD), HIV, hearing, vision and oral health. Free sports physicals for ages 10-21 will also be offered.
In addition to the screenings, a variety of community groups will be on hand to distribute important information. This year’s event will also include exciting entertainment with a local DJ playing a variety of musical favorites.
“This event offers a great opportunity for families in Indianapolis to take advantage of various health resources and screening tools all at one location,” said Dr. Terri Litty, a physician at Eskenazi Health Center Grassy Creek. “Eskenazi Health Center Community Day will include fun children’s activities and helpful resources for the entire family.”
In partnership with The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), Henry Schein has provided a $5,000 grant to Eskenazi Health Center, as well as in-kind support of medical and dental supplies donated by Henry Schein Cares – the company’s global corporate social responsibility program – valued at $5,000. Henry Schein is the world's largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health and medical practitioners.
Booths that will be set up during Community Day will include information on a variety of topics, such as depression, adolescent health, child safety, burn and trauma prevention, Medicaid, financial counseling and educational opportunities. Bystander CPR training from Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and physical fitness tests will also be available. In addition to the many booths and health screenings, door prizes will be given out to fair participants.
Eskenazi Health Center locations Forest Manor, Grassy Creek and North Arlington provide a wide variety of health care services to the public, including primary care for adults and children along with specialty services, such as OB/GYN, social services and nutrition counseling. The centers are part of Eskenazi Health Center, which operates 10 community health centers located throughout Indianapolis.
