Farmer’s Markets include live concerts, a DJ and much more
Indianapolis, May 2, 2017 – On Tuesday, May 16, the Eskenazi Health Farmers’ Market will kick off its 10th season providing fresh and local produce, fresh baked goods, plants and other market items to the public. In addition, this year’s market will offer a variety of music as well as resources and techniques to help reduce stress and improve mood.
Every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., The Commonground in front of the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, located at 720 Eskenazi Ave., will be transformed into a farmers’ market with several vendors, local farmers and games. The market goes throughout the summer months and ends Tuesday, Sept. 19. The event will occur rain or shine.
The farmers’ market will also include music, such as live concerts and a DJ, information on mindful eating, and experiential activities like stretch band exercises, meditation and stress level checks with skin thermometers. In addition, Rachel White of The Sky Farm at Eskenazi Health will conduct demonstrations on herb drying, quick pickling, the importance of bees and more.
Guests, patients and employees alike can enjoy the market every Tuesday free of charge.
“The farmers’ market is an extension of our wellness and lifestyle-focused approach to health care at Eskenazi Health. It’s an opportunity to bring our employees and the community together and enjoy immediate access to local produce, healthful food choices, live music and beautiful weather,” said Brian Schroeder, director of Eskenazi Health Wellness.
Duos will again be part of the weekly offerings this year with its permanent location directly next to the market. Most items sold at the Eskenazi Health Farmers’ Market are grown or made within 150 miles of the Eskenazi Health campus and within the state of Indiana.
Café Soleil at Eskenazi Health will once again delight customers with Bud’s BBQ at this year’s market, featuring a fresh cookout menu each week. In addition to bringing on new menu items, some returning favorites on the Bud’s BBQ menu include Bud’s famous baby back BBQ ribs, grilled local chicken, brats, fresh corn on the cob and of course their classic peach cobbler. This year, Starbucks at Eskenazi Health will also join in on the fun and surprise guests with samples, coupons and refreshing beverages each week.
The Eskenazi Health Farmers’ Market is part of the innovative Eskenazi Health Wellness program. Eskenazi Health Wellness began in 2005 as a way to encourage employees and others to place wellness and health as a top priority.
While the market’s aim is to attract Eskenazi Health employees and others on the IUPUI campus, all visitors and guests are encouraged to stop by and visit the farmers’ market. The Eskenazi Health Parking Garage is accessible for patrons and is located just west of the market on Dr. Harvey Middleton Way.
