Indianapolis, May 3, 2018 – On Tuesday, May 15, the Eskenazi Health Farmers’ Market will kick off its 11th season of providing fresh and local produce, fresh baked goods, plants and other market items to the public. Every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., The Commonground in front of the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital will transform into a farmers’ market with several vendors, local farmers and games, such as corn hole and football toss. The market, which will also occasionally include a live concert or a DJ, goes throughout the summer months and ends Tuesday, Sept. 11. The event will occur rain or shine. Guests, patients and employees alike can enjoy the market every Tuesday free of charge. Vendors will include:
- 3 in 1 Restaurant
- McCowans Farm
- Gluten Free Creations
- Brick House Vinaigrettes
- Maya’s Barkery
- D & S Kettle Corn
- Marta’s Goody’s
- Creative Wandering
Most items sold at the Eskenazi Health Farmers’ Market are grown or made within 150 miles of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus and within the state of Indiana.
“Access to whole foods that are local, healthful, and affordable is a challenge for our patients, and our employees at Eskenazi Health,” said Brian Schroeder, director of Eskenazi Health Wellness. “As we continue to invest heavily in the health and well-being of our community, the farmer’s market is another way for Eskenazi Health to create access to healthy food and support local businesses in the process.”
For the first market on May 15, Jared Thompson and Premium Blend will perform a jazz concert at noon. The performance is made possible by the Marianne Tobias Music Program at Eskenazi Health, which brings music to the patients, visitors and staff at Eskenazi Health. To learn more about the program and to find a list of upcoming concerts, please contact the Eskenazi Health Foundation at 317.880.4900 or visit www.EskenaziHealthMusic.com.
Duos will again be part of the weekly offerings with its permanent location directly next to the market.
Café Soleil at Eskenazi Health will delight customers with Bud’s BBQ’s cookout menu, which includes locally sourced food. In addition to bringing on new menu items, some returning favorites are Bud’s famous baby back BBQ ribs, grilled local chicken, brats, fresh corn on the cob and, of course, Bud’s classic peach cobbler. Indiana Kitchen (Delphi, Indiana), Miller Poultry (Orland, Indiana), Fischer Farms (Jasper, Indiana), Gunthorp Farms (LaGrange, Indiana) and Saint Adrian Meats & Sausage (Lebanon, Indiana) are among Eskenazi Health’s local partners.
The Eskenazi Health Farmers’ Market is part of the innovative Eskenazi Health Wellness program. Eskenazi Health Wellness began in 2005 as a way to encourage employees and others to place wellness and health as a top priority.
While the market’s aim is to attract Eskenazi Health employees and others on the IUPUI campus, all visitors and guests are encouraged to stop by and visit the farmers’ market. The Eskenazi Health Parking Garage is accessible for patrons and is located just west of the market on Dr. Harvey Middleton Way. If you have any questions about the Eskenazi Health Farmers’ Market, please contact Angela Siela, Eskenazi Health Wellness project manager, at angela.siela@eskenazihealth.edu.
