Blue Cross Blue Shield award identifies and promotes health care excellence
Indianapolis, Oct. 16, 2017 – The Eskenazi Health Family Beginnings maternity care program has earned Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Blue Distinction Specialty Care recognition presented to health care providers renowned for their expertise and cost efficiency in delivering care.
Blue Distinction Specialty Care is a national designation program identifying providers that demonstrate expertise in delivering quality specialty care – safely, effectively and cost efficiently.
The program helps consumers find both quality and value for their specialty care needs while encouraging health care professionals to improve the overall quality and delivery of health care nationwide, and providing a credible foundation for local Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield Plans (Blue Plans) to design benefits tailored to meet employers’ quality and cost objectives.
“We’re very pleased and deeply honored to receive this prestigious designation from Blue Cross Blue Shield,” said Dr. Lisa Harris, CEO of Eskenazi Health. “Earning Blue Distinction Specialty Care recognition provides affirmation and encouragement for everyone associated with our Family Beginnings program, and I congratulate them all for providing the very best in maternity health care.”
Each facility that was evaluated for this recognition receives a Feedback Report containing valuable performance information. This Feedback Report can also provide a foundation for internal discussions within the facility’s management team or medical staff to assess and improve quality and cost performance in comparison to national benchmarks.
The Eskenazi Health Family Beginnings program met all the criteria for Blue Distinction recognition in all categories: Quality Decision, Business Decision, Cost of Care Decision and Final Eligibility Decision
“Every birth is a one-of-a-kind experience, and Eskenazi Health aims to provide new families with the best care for their newest member,” said Lee Ann Blue, MSN, RN, executive vice president for Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer at Eskenazi Health. “We work to develop services to meet the medical, social and psychological needs of our patients, the full spectrum of care that allows women to focus their efforts where they belong – introducing their new little ones to the world.”
