What better way to show your love on Valentine’s Day than to help save a life and donate blood. This Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, Feb. 14, Eskenazi Health is hosting a blood drive in collaboration with the Indiana Blood Center.
The event will be held at the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital from noon to 4 p.m. in the Faegre Baker Daniels Conference Room, located on the first floor of the Eskenazi Health Outpatient Care Center. Free parking is available in the Eskenazi Health Parking Garage, located at 720 Eskenazi Ave. Free car wash tickets will be available for donors while supplies last.
The donation process should take less than an hour. It is recommended that donors have a light snack before donating blood that day. Most people are eligible to donate, and there are minimal causes resulting in deferral and very few medications that are not accepted. Donors are encouraged to walk in at any time between noon and 4 p.m. to donate blood.
The Indiana Blood Center must see 550 people each and every day to meet patient needs at the more than 60 hospitals it supplies. The blood center is reporting that with the rise in flu cases, deferrals are up significantly, which is impacting the number of individuals able to donate.
