The Joint Commission has awarded Eskenazi Health the Disease-Specific Care, Joint Replacement Hip and Knee Core Certification, which is given to programs that meet certain performance standards set by The Joint Commission.
According to The Joint Commission, the certification process helps optimize efficiencies while improving patient care and identifies and measures areas for performance improvement, focusing on areas such as surgical site infection rates, fall rates, enhanced patient education, length of stay, early ambulation and pain management.
The Eskenazi Health Total Joint Replacement Program was developed in 2015 and previously received Core Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement in 2019. Eskenazi Health providers see patients through the Sandra Eskenazi Outpatient Care Center, and surgeons perform over 200 total hip and total knee replacements each year.
The Total Joint Replacement program is led by Stephen Oleszkiewicz, M.D., and is joined by Anthony McPherron, D.O. The multidisciplinary team is committed to providing excellent, comprehensive care to joint replacement patients, and this certification reflects their hard work and dedication.
Patients must be referred to the program by a primary care provider or specialist and meet predetermined criteria in order to be eligible for joint replacement surgery. Patients in need of a primary care provider can call Eskenazi Health Connections at 317.880.7666.
