Eskenazi Health has been recognized as a High Performer in LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation.
The designation is part of the 2024 Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), an annual survey conducted by the HRC Foundation. The survey evaluates health care facilities across the nation for LGBTQ+ inclusive policies and best practices related to LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and employees.
More than 1,000 facilities participated in the 2024 HEI survey. Eskenazi Health was among 462 facilities across the nation that earned an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality High Performer designation. This is the eighth year Eskenazi Health has been recognized on the HEI. The Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center was the only other Central Indiana hospital system recognized by the HRC.
The Eskenazi Health Gender Health Program was established in 2016 and provides gender-affirming care including hormone therapy and specialty services for adult transgender patients of all gender identities. The first of its kind in Indiana, the program combines hormone management and other comprehensive services with surgical options. The program includes many skilled team members trained in the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) standards of care. From medical providers and surgeons to nurses and caring support staff, all are dedicated to serving the transgender community with excellence. Eskenazi Health is also an annual participant in the Indy Pride Parade and other events celebrating diversity and inclusion.
The HRC Foundation is the educational arm of HRC, America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people.
