Limited amount of free adult flu shots will be part of health fair - Eskenazi Health

Free health screenings and wellness information will be offered at this year’s annual Eskenazi Health Center Westside Health Fair. This year’s fair will also feature a limited amount of free adult flu shots.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, Eskenazi Health Center Westside, along with the Indiana University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Student Interest Group, will present the 18th annual Eskenazi Health Center Westside Health Fair at 2732 W. Michigan St. in Indianapolis. The free health fair, which is organized and run by IU School of Medicine students, will be open to the entire community from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"Regular checkups are vital to ensure health and wellness. For the past 18 years, the Internal Medicine Student Interest Group and Eskenazi Health Center Westside have teamed up to encourage the public to receive regular health checkups," said Dr. Neeta Agarwal, chief executive physician at Eskenazi Health Center Westside. "We are excited to once again provide health screenings and information to the public through our annual health fair."

Health screenings provided during the fair will include blood pressure, diabetes, dental and vision, and there will also be a special town hall meeting covering important health care topics. Participants may visit a wide variety of informational booths, providing resources in areas such as weight loss/exercise, Hispanic resources, WIC, mental health and primary care services. Education will also be offered on paying for health care, women’s health, STDs, domestic violence, nutrition and much more. Spanish interpreters and bilingual pamphlets and health information will also be available.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children to learn about bicycle, helmet, seat belt and fire safety. Weather permitting, a fire truck will be available for touring. Free refreshments and door prizes will also be offered.

Eskenazi Health Center Westside, which is located west of the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus in the Haughville neighborhood, provides a wide variety of health care services to the public, including primary care for adults and children, along with specialty services, such as OB/GYN, social services and nutrition counseling.
