Finding a hotel and making local travel arrangements are some of the last things on people's minds when their loved one is in a critical care unit of the hospital. Established in March 2009, St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild Haven of Hope at Eskenazi Health provides sleeping arrangements, bathing and laundry facilities, and a quiet place of respite to individuals who find themselves traveling a significant distance to be with their loved ones during those first few critical days of care.
Since opening, the program has served hundreds of family members from outside of Marion County who want to stay close to a patient during a significant hospitalization but lack the means or time to secure lodging with family, friends or a hotel. The program is funded by a generous grant from St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild as well as by donations from families and community members.
