    For many of us, mid-December through early January means a glorious time of happiness and excitement while enjoying the annual holiday season with family, friends and co-workers. However, for many of us, this stretch of time through the holidays and during the winter season intensifies desperate feelings of sadness, depression and loneliness. Those feelings combined with a lack of sunlight, shorter days, financial concerns, time pressures, family problems and setting expectations too high, may all lead to what many call the winter or holiday blues. A variety of influences can lead to this condition and it’s critically important to realize when those symptoms become a sign of major depression or anxiety, which occurs for many people.

  • Eskenazi Health to Expand Outpatient Rehabilitation Services

    A new outpatient rehabilitation center for the treatment of orthopedic, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions will open next week at the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. Additional rehabilitation services that will be available at the new center opening on Monday, Dec. 18, include pelvic floor health, cognitive therapy, amputee rehab, specialized care for hand injuries and splinting needs. The clinic will also allow therapists to practice in a joint venture that integrates emergency and outpatient rehab. This will provide a seamless transition and continuity of care as patients move from the emergency department to outpatient.

    Eskenazi Health will begin offering MyChart e-Visits December 11. Established Eskenazi Health patients who are MyChart users can log into their accounts, select from a list of symptoms, answer a series of online questions and submit their information. An Eskenazi Health provider will send his or her treatment recommendations via Eskenazi Health MyChart or by telephone if that seems more appropriate.
