On Saturday, Sept. 13, several local organizations will team up to offer free health screenings and childhood immunizations, family entertainment, free food and helpful resources to the public at Eskenazi Health Center Community Day.
This year’s event will be at Eskenazi Health Center Forest Manor, 3840 N. Sherman Dr. The fair will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is hosted by three Eskenazi Health Center locations, Forest Manor, Grassy Creek and North Arlington health centers.
Free health screenings will be offered during the event including asthma, cholesterol, glucose (diabetes), skin cancer, blood pressure, body mass index, STD, HIV, hearing and vision. Free immunizations for children and adults will also be offered. Shot records are required for children.
In addition to the screenings, a variety of community groups will be on hand to distribute important information. This year’s event will also include exciting entertainment with a local DJ playing a variety of musical favorites.
"Eskenazi Health Center Community Day is a great opportunity for families in Indianapolis to take advantage of many different health resources and screening tools at once,” said Dr. Dana-Lynn Hiller, a physician at Eskenazi Health Center Forest Manor. “We want this to be an extension of patients' medical homes, where they go not only for urgent medical needs but, perhaps more importantly, for preventative care."
Some of the booths that will be set up during Community Day will include information on a wide variety of topics, such as child safety, women’s health, asthma education, Medicaid, financial counseling, mental health, educational opportunities and physical fitness. In addition to the many booths and health screenings, a limited number of bicycles and helmets will be given out to fair participants.
Participating organizations in Community Day include Martin University, Indiana Minority Health Coalition, Citizen’s Energy, Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services, The Excel Center, Walgreens, Head Start, Marion County Public Library, Legacy House, Indiana Tech, Marion County Public Health Department, Indy Reads, WIC, Eskenazi Health Midtown Community Mental Health, IUPUI Adolescent Medicine and more.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children to enjoy the fun activities and free games. Participants may also enter a contest to win door prizes and giveaways.
Sponsors and donors for Community Day include the American Medical Association-IU School of Medicine Chapter, AMC Theatres, Keeler-Webb Associates, Lee and Evelyn Rhyant Family Foundation and Eskenazi Health.
