Take part in free health screenings and receive medical advice from health care professionals in a fun, family environment at this year’s Eskenazi Health Center Westside Health Fair. This year’s fair will also feature a limited amount of free flu shots.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, Eskenazi Health Center Westside, along with the Indiana University School of Medicine Internal Medicine Student Interest Group, will present the 17th annual Eskenazi Health Center Westside Health Fair, at 2732 W. Michigan St. in Indianapolis. The free health fair, which is organized and run by IU School of Medicine students, will be open to the entire community from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
New this year will be the Eskenazi Health Center Westside Run/Walk, which will be held the morning of the health fair. The run/walk is for all ages and all levels of runners.
“For the past 17 years the Internal Medicine Student Interest Group and Eskenazi Health Center Westside have teamed up with the local community and the many departments and students from the IU School of Medicine to provide important screenings and fun health education for the entire family,” said Dr. Palmer MacKie, a physician at Eskenazi Health Center Westside. “We are excited to again provide these services and help encourage the public to receive regular health checkups.”
Health screenings provided during the fair will include blood pressure, diabetes, dental and vision, and there will also be a special town hall meeting covering important health care topics. Participants may visit a wide variety of information booths on topics including fatherhood resources, weight loss/exercise, Hispanic resources, WIC, and mental health and primary care services.
Education will also be offered on paying for health care, women’s health, STDs, domestic violence, nutrition and much more. Spanish interpreters and bilingual pamphlets and health information will also be available. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to learn about bicycle, helmet, seat belt and fire safety. Weather permitting, a fire truck will be available for touring. Free refreshments and door prizes will also be offered.
Eskenazi Health Center Westside, which is located west of the IUPUI campus in the Haughville neighborhood, provides a wide variety of health care services to the public, including primary care for adults and children along with specialty services, such as OB/GYN, social services and nutrition counseling.
