Wishard invites the public to join hospital and project officials as well as community and arts leaders to view art proposals and share perspectives on the artists’ proposed designs to help ensure art in The New Wishard closely aligns and connects with the greater Indianapolis community.

In the same venue where Wishard celebrated Marion County voters’ overwhelming 85-percent approval of new hospital facilities on November 3, 2009, project leaders offered a landslide of information to local building trades leaders on Tuesday as part of the pre-bid meeting for the construction bid package Wishard estimates to be the largest of the project in terms of components and opportunities it will create for businesses owned by minorities, women, veterans and persons with disabilities.

Wishard Health Services is seeking qualifications from artists interested in creating public art for The New Wishard, currently under construction on Indianapolis’s Westside between 10th Street and Michigan Street, just west of the current Wishard campus.

Wishard awarded the initial construction bid package on the project to build a new Wishard – a hospital for all of Indianapolis – to FA Wilhelm Construction Company, Inc. on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Representatives of Wishard Hospital and IUPUI joined together in front of Wishard’s oldest buildings this afternoon to officially sign an agreement exchanging land for a new Wishard.

Today, Wishard Health Services announced, after years of extensive study, that a ceiling of $703 million in low-interest public bonds is needed to support building a new $754 million Wishard Hospital campus.

On Friday, Wishard shared a collection of initial proposals for art – a small number of which it plans to select for fabrication and installation in The New Wishard for the next 100 years and beyond – with a crowd of civic, government, health and arts community leaders and the public at historic City Market in the heart of downtown.

Eskenazi Health community health centers and the Eskenazi Health Outpatient Care Center will open tomorrow, Jan. 7, at 8 a.m.
